We live in an age when most adults and even our children are soft, weak, and overweight. Machines do much of our work for us, and recreation often consists of vegetating in front of a computer screen or playing mindless video games. A little physical work will always do a body good. I have felled, bucked, hauled, and stacked more firewood than I can ever recall. My decades in Montana always included a demand for at least eight cords of wood annually. Even here in southern Arizona, winters get chilly and a warm wood stove can be a real comfort on frosty nights.
