Giant millipedes spend nearly all of their lives underground, typically emerging only after monsoon rainstorms. This one was about five inches in length; some sources claim this species can reach up to nine inches in length. These fascinating, innocuous arthropods can live for ten years, growing longer and adding more body segments every time they shed.
